Quincy Modern Farmhouse Addition

Quincy, MA

This second-story addition consisted of adding approximately 1,000 square feet of living space, including a guest
bedroom/office, a kids' bedroom, a master bedroom, a large master closet, a master bathroom, and one additional guest/kid's full bathroom. In a multi-generational household, the family desired to add enough space for their boys to have their own rooms as well as give the mother-in-law some privacy.

With the second-floor addition, we also refreshed the exterior of the home by converting a mid-century ranch into a modern farmhouse. For the style conversion, we added a farmer's porch to the front and a multi-level deck to the back. The white-trimmed windows were replaced with black-trimmed windows in a prairie-style design. We also saved costs by preserving most of the lower-level vinyl siding and adding board and batten vinyl siding to the addition above to continue the style change.

On the first floor, the bathroom was completely renovated and features a curb-less walk-in shower. To accommodate a staircase to the second floor, the wall of the existing office was removed. A new French door was also installed in this area to access the new multi-level deck. Once on the second floor, the guest/kids’ bathroom is to the left. We built this bathroom around an existing chimney giving it a unique shape and maximizing useable floor space. Upon entering the bathroom are the sink and toilet area with a short hall leading to the shower.

The guest bedroom/office space includes glass French doors to accommodate either use. The master bedroom faces the backyard and includes a large bathroom with a shower stall, a soaking tub, a water closet, and an enormous walk-in closet. The hexagon marble floors are complimented with gray subway tile and a unique black and white accent tile in the shower niches.

The basement was also renovated to add an updated laundry area and additional living space.
